Passport to the Arts

There are many arts opportunities in the Greater DC area, which often help to enrich our knowledge, understanding and interest in a variety of topics in a fun way! The Deborah Lerner Gross Jewish Cultural Arts Center, in collaboration with the PTO, as part of our Passport to the Arts initiative, will bring many of these opportunities to your attention, and whenever possible, offer ways to make events more affordable.

PTO Program Chair: Rena Fruchter, fruchterr@mjbha.org.

Let the Arts transport your imagination;

take a journey within yourself!

Passport to the Arts

What is it?

For grades K-8, Passport to the Arts has been created to raise awareness and build pride and excitement about arts in our community. Its goal is for families to have fun together while exposing children to a diverse mix of live arts programs , such as art gallery visits, attendance at plays and puppet shows, concerts, ballets, etc.

How does it work?

For 6 months, beginning Nov 1 and going through April 30, students and families will make choices to attend one experience from each of the 8 categories to complete their passports.   The categories include creative writing, drama, visual arts, music, dance, concerts, museum visits, and other. Students will have the opportunity to share their experiences with their peers and teachers on a regular basis throughout the year. Students who have filled out 8 “My Points” pages to complete their passports will have earned “travel points” to attend a group program in the spring.

How do I get started?

Students can pick up a passport and a copy of “My Points” page from their English teacher to get started.  Students and parents can begin choosing events to attend. Either go to the PTO link (http://www.mjbha.org/PTO/Programming/Passport_to_the_Arts/Upcoming_Suggested_Events.cfm) for event ideas or choose as a family the places you would like to go! Enjoy your artistic travels!
