Introduction
The curriculum of the Rabbi Moshe H. Levinson Upper School is designed to offer a rich blend of Judaic and general studies that will broaden and enrich the students’ knowledge and sense of wonder. Our academic program provides a firm foundation for continued education in both Judaic and liberal arts studies. Our courses foster critical, logical and imaginative thought, enabling our students to develop into well-educated persons. Our educational process promotes the values of open-mindedness, curiosity, and cooperation, and develops skills in communication, organization, and informed decision making. MJBHA graduates have a wide range of post high school programs available to them, including the most competitive colleges and highly regarded yeshivot in Israel.
The main purpose of this curriculum guide is to outline our departments and their course offerings. Students do have the option to select an elective course each year and the seniors have an opportunity to choose more of their program. Many of the courses to be taken by a student will be assigned based on various factors such as previous year performance, teacher recommendations, and Department Chair input. Students who are able are encouraged to take the most rigorous pathway through the program including honors sections and AP courses. Students seeking placement into honors and AP sections require permission from the Department Chair.
Learning and personal development are enhanced by out-of-class activities. We encourage participation in student government, publications, athletics, clubs, committees and other extra-curricular activities. Student participation strengthens both the individual and the community. Students are encouraged to successfully balance both their curricular and extra-curricular commitments.
