Jim Joseph Foundation
Dear Parents,
The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington is proud to be one of five communities across the country selected by the Jim Joseph Foundation for a $1.25 million dollar grant (the second year of a two year grant) for emergency Jewish education assistance. In response to the significant increase in requests for financial assistance for Jewish preschools, the Federation has established a central scholarship fund for families enrolled in local Jewish preschools.
On behalf of The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, we are pleased to notify you that the 2011-12 financial aid award from Melvin J, Berman Hebrew Academy has been made possible in part by a generous Jewish education emergency grant from the Jim Joseph Foundation (JJF) Preschool Scholarship Award. In these challenging economic times, The Jewish Federation is grateful for the Jim Joseph Foundation’s generous emergency grant for increased needs-based Jewish education grants to families in the Greater Washington DC area. Your award is made possible by this Foundation’s commitment to Jewish education, as well as ongoing support provided by The Jewish Federation and your school/camp/preschool/agency.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington builds a vibrant and purposeful Jewish community by caring for those in need, deepening engagement in Jewish life, and strengthening the bonds and connections among Jews in the Washington area, in Israel, and around the world. As a community building organization, the Jewish Federation brings together human and fiscal resources to ensure a vibrant today and future for the Jewish people. The Jewish Federation places a high priority on Jewish educational experiences as these are the building blocks that produce informed citizens who integrate Jewish values and practices into all aspects of their lives.
The Jim Joseph Foundation, established in 2006, is committed to a sustained program of grant making in pursuit of a vision that leads to ever-increasing numbers of young Jews engaged in ongoing Jewish learning and choosing to live vibrant Jewish lives. The JJF manages approximately $800 million dollars of assets, using all of its resources to foster compelling, effective Jewish learning for young Jews in the United States.
Information about next years' grants will be provided in the Spring.
